    Hi,
Since Windows Media Player 9 was installed on our Windows XP Home computer, we cannot play DVD movies on our DVD-ROM drive. We keep getting the following message:

    "Windows Media Player
Windows Media Player Cannot Play This DVD Because a Problem Occurred with Digital Copyright Protection.
    (Close) (More Information) "

When we click on More Information, it notes that Windows Media Player does not come with a DVD Decoder.

Does anyone know where we can get this DVD Decoder?

On our older version of Windows Media Player we don't remember having this problem. Our DVD movies played OK.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Arie,
    Thanks for the reply.
I checked for DVD Decoder on my computer and found:

    “Detected DVD Decoders
    Dshow SW:
    Name: DVD Express AV Decoder.dll
    Company Name: Mediamatics, Inc.
    Version: 5.1.0.42
    Product Version: 5.1.0.42
    CRC32: 0x5fffacc6
    VID: 1

    W2k Upgrade = No
    Win9x Upgrade = No
    LCID = 0409
    (OK)â€
But, I believe this was already on my computer when I got the message about DVD Decoder on Windows Media Player.

    Any Suggestions?

    Thanks

    Hi Arie,
I tried Windows Media Player again with a DVD movie and this is what happened:

The title of movie was on tab on upper right of screen.

There was a note above the controls on the bottom that noted:
    "Playing (Menu) "

But there was nothing on the screen (it was black) and there was no sound.

I'm no longer getting an error message but the DVD will not play.

    Thanks

    FYI,

Discussed with IBM and they advised updating Direct X and NVIDIA driver.

After we did this, we can now watch DVD movies on our DVD-ROM drive using Windows Media Player or Mediamatics DVMatics DVD player.
