Recently uninstalled Norton Antivirus 2001 in order to install NA 2005 according to Norton's instructions (on Win 98 OS).

Now, when I go to shut down my pc, it hangs up and won't let me shut down giving me the following:

Norton Crashguard has caught a crash:
    Win 95 RPC Wmsg Window
Ccapp.exe caused fault #c0000005 in (unknown) at address 017f:10026880

I saved the details of the crash to Norton Crashguard. It gives the following location:
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\SYMANTEC SHARED\CCAPP.EXE

Did I uninstall a shared file that I shouldn't have? If so, how do I fix it?

Thanks again for helping with the obvious!

    Hi T&S.
Did you have Norton Systemworks installed and only uninstalled the AV component? I know Crashguard was a component of earlier versions of Systemworks and may not be compatible with new versions of AV. If so, I would uninstall Systemworks and your new AV, then reinstall AV. Just a thought.

A web search for your error turned up nothing. But I did get some hints that similer problems may be spy/adware related
Have you scanned your PC lately? :)

I had problems getting the new NA2005 to run correctly, so their recommendation was to uninstall all Norton products (all I had on was NA and N Crashguard 3.0) and reinstall NA2005.

But, I had this problem before I reinstalled crashguard. Who knows? Maybe, if I take crashguard off again, scan, defrag.......generally, clean up my mess........
