Error checking now on every startup

I ran the error checking a week ago. Now it does it every time the computer is rebooted or starts up. The check marks are gone in the error checking window--so it doesn't appear that the computer has been 'told' to error check upon start up.

 

When you state "I ran the error checking ", I assume you are referring to CHKDSK.

This could involve changing valves in the registry. If you feel uncomfortable working in registry, seek help from someone with experience. I was hoping to find a simply registry solution from Registry Edits for Windows XP "Tweaks and Tips ". .... but nothing jumped out at me.

 

Thanks, this was what was causing the check disk function to stick. I noticed that after the check disk/error checking completed, a Spybot registry request box popped up asking to change the registry to the settings you described--I had been unsure of what it was so I had been denying the change. So without having to go into regedit, the registry was changed by allowing Spybot to do it.
