    Hello!

Well, we had company coming over so I decided to put a password on my computer, and that went well. Yesterday I went back to change it back and now I am getting an error report that the program has to be shut down and should I report this error?

I look at the info on the error report and one of the things are:

    mshta.exe

amongst other things listed too but what is going on?? I just cleaned my drives/defrag'ed them but that was it....

    Perplexed.

    Try a System Restore?

Apparently a known problem when using HTA scripting that has been disabled for security reasons. This I assume can be done through through IE's security, OE security, Virus programs etc.

The problem is "User Accounts" via the Control Panel uses hta scripting and applet mshta.exe. If hta has been stopped or blocked for security reason your going to get an error.

See:[not suggesting the software advertised here but just the information details]:

    http://www.nsclean.com/htastop.html

I'm still researching this but I wanted to give you a heads up. It may be as simple as lowering such hta blocking or security settings temporarily but I'll have a look around and see whats up. Maybe a update/patch that took care of this that you have failed to get.????

    ==========
NOTE*There were other possibilities but this seemed the most logical to me but in an effort to be thorough I should mention some of the others.

    See googles:

Well one of these fixes worked:[Copy and pasted]

    Bob,

I've seen this issue resolved by registering the Oleaut32.dll. Try this:

    Click Start | Run | type "regsvr32 oleaut32.dll "
    then "regsvr32 ole32.dll "
    "regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll "

If this does not help, try performing a system restore rollback.

I tried what you posted at the bottom with the .dll files and that didn't work... and I read about the HTAstop program, should I try that? I don't know what the heck happened, possibly an update error? I uninstalled the last MS update that I did and that didn't help either.

I did get into the user accounts via another way someone suggested here (although now I can't find it!) and that worked but I still cannot get into the User Accounts panel....

    Very odd.

This is what I did to remove the password:

    This was posted by:Noahdfear
    ( Here is link )

Go to Start>Run, type in (or copy and paste from here) "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes, with the space after "control "), click OK.

In the resulting window, uncheck the box for "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer," click OK.

Click once on the account you want to logon automatically to select it, click OK. Enter the password for that account (or leave it blank if there isn't one) and click OK.

    That should do it.
