I formated my HD yesterday and using the restore disks for my Toshiba Satellite 2410 laptop, reinstalled Windows XP home. Since then, windows is detecting an "unknown" piece of hardware. I have no idea what it is, so I can't locate any drivers for it.

The only thing I think it could be is something bluetooth related, since I noticed yesterday that I had bluetooth turned to "off" on the side of my computer, and I have since turned it to on (I have never used bluetooth before, but this on and off switch has a pic the same as for my bluetooth software, so I assume that is what it is for. I have had this laptop for 5 years and never noticed this tiny switch until yesterday!!)

I turned off the switch, rebooted several times, but I still get the hardware issue. I have nothing attached to the computer except an ethernet cable to the router, my mouse, and the power cable.

Any thoughts?? Just to add, there is a big yellow question mark beside the device in Device Manager, and when I click on properties, there is no info on it.

    Ignore it.

If you have any issues at all it likely would be with your modem or sound devices.

If these work, ignore the unknown device.

As well as ignoring it disable the unknown device in Device Manager - this will prevent any irritating messages from Windows :)

    first try at this service

I would look on install cd or visit manufacturers website to get the driver for it if you really want to find it. Usually on the install cd for the laptop mb they have a bunch of drivers specific to the case and mb that xp might not have.
