    Hi guys

I corrupted my winxp hive and did a restore/repair and had to reinstall Norton SystemWorks2002.

    i did the following

    1. remove current Norton Systemworks2002 via Add/remove program
    2. restarted pc
    3. run systemworks 2002 install cd-rom but it hanged on the initialising install so i forced an end process for the setup program in Task bar

now whenever i restart or shutdown windows i get rundll.exe not responding and have to end the program before i can restart or shutdown pc :(

in my windows error log it says

how do i get rid of this problem ?

    thanks

I did a google search and came up with the following additional information, in case it helps:

Message: "Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. You may be running in Safe mode or Windows Installer may not be correctly installed. "

    (1) If you are not logged in as an administrator, log in as Administrator and try running the setup again.

    (2) You may have a registry error in your Windows Installer setup. Please see this article on the Microsoft Web site for more information:

I've learned from bitter experience that, even when Systemworks, or any of the stand-alone Symantec/Norton programs, is uninstalled, using either its own uninstallation program (if available), or by using Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, numerous references are left behind in the registry.

I would suggest downloading Registry Detective, a PC Mag freebie which works in conjunction with RegEdit, and makes searching the Registry really easy.

Then, search the Registry for all instances of both Norton and Symantec (I think you'll be surprised at how many you'll find), and delete them. It may just solve your problem.
