error 1325 in XP

    I have been trying to download sync software and I keep getting this error: error 1325 '....' is not valid short file name. I went to Microsoft site and it said to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I downloaded it successfully and when I began to run it, it stopped and I got the same message error message. How do I fix this?
