I found and followed this thread which seems to be the same issue I'm facing, but that was old, windows 7 and the solutions didn't work for me, so I started a new post looking for help to resolve.

When trying to start Remote Desktop Services, I get the following error
Error 126: The Specified Module could not be found.

I ran sfc /scannow and it found no issues

    I checked the registryper this
    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ RasMan \ PPP \ EAP and delete entries other than 13, 25, and 26

    I don't have anything besides these 3

I checked \windows\system32 to make sure these files are present:

    • rasman.dll
    • rasmans.dll
    • rasppp.dll
    • raschap.dll
    • rastls.dll
    and I have them all

and that's where the 2 threads finished, since the poster(s) were resolved by those steps.

I may have turned off/uninstalled some services, or turned off some windows features from the uninstall programs page, but I've checked and cannot find anything that seems relevant.

This became an issue to me because I ran a virus checker program (eset online) because of some weirdness on this machine (which I already resolved), but eset removed/quarantined some files necessary for RDP Wrapper, which I use to connect to my server. I tried to reinstall RDP Wrapper, but ran into issues.

I looked on that Github page for help, and was not able to find a resolution, since this seems to be a windows issue, not a RDP Wrapper issue. The thread there has more details on what else I've tried.

In the end, I am able to connect to the server via RDP, but the service not being able to start seems wrong, and the fact I'm unable to uninstall RDP Wrapper with an error about failing to set up TermService makes me want to find the root cause, so this doesn't bite me later, when I may not remember all this so clearly.

i appreciate any help anyone can provide

Hi JustinChase, Welcome to WindowsBBS. :)
I have no experience with your problem but I would venture to suggest that as you have Registry errors (corrupted dll) it would probably be best to run Recovery.
Reset would be your best option as you can save your current files etc.
Someone else may have a better suggestion but IMHO you need a fresh OS.
