I read an earlier post that referred to this error code but there was never a solution. The problem is that after a fresh Windows 2000 installation, I try to download updates via Windows Update and am unable to. I was able to download SP4 and IE6, but now everytime I try to get the rest, I end up getting error code 0x8DDD0009. I have googled this problem and find a lot of instances but no solution. Help.

    Hi,

Open the Event Viewer by going to Start > Run, and type in eventvwr.msc, Click OK.

Select Application Log. Under the Source header, look for error(s) associated with MsiInstaller.

Double click them to see more details.

If the error states that MsiInstaller could not find msxml3.dll, then go to Start > Run, and type in regsvr32 msxml3.dll, click OK. You should get a confirmation message that the .dll file was successfully registered.

I've also seen reports that uninstalling, then reinstalling the Windows Installer (3.1) fixed this problem.

If that doesn't work try rerunning Internet Connection Wizard.

This can be done by these steps:
In Internet Explorer go to Tools > Internet Options ||| Click the Connections Tab Then the Setup button.

it worked for me after the other stuff above didn't.

    hope you get it fixed.

    Nothing

Neither one of the solutions worked. The problem is happening on both Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro. I have reinstalled both OS's with the same results for both OS's. This has got me stumped. The Event log has no errors so I don't have a clue. Help.:(

There doesn't seem to be a definite fix for this one at this point...

    Something else to try:

    Run from a command prompt: regsvr32 "%systemroot%\system32\mobsync.dll" /u

This will disable Client Side Caching (CSC). Normally you'd try this when you get an Event ID 4100 in W2K or Event ID 4356 in WinXP.

Uninstalling (and not reinstalling) Windows Installer 3.1 has also been mentioned.

Yet another suggestion: Try downloading & Installing Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2)

Also delete your TIF files (from Internet Explorer, Tools menu, Internet Options > General tab, Delete Files)

Another fix that has worked for some is to use Dial-a-fix.

There is a windows update log file that you can read through to see what errors or fatal processes are occurring. The location is C:\WINNT\WindowsUpdate its a text file. Search the document for the text FATAL and post what you find.

    New Update

Ok, I tried disabling Client Side Caching - Didn't work
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Installer 3.1 - Didn't work
    I tried it with Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) - Didn't work
I tried deleting TIF files and all files in IE6 - Didn't work.
I have not tried downloading Dial-a-fix, but I doubt it will work.

But this is the latest: It is also happening with Win XP Pro SP2!
Brand new fresh install and I still get the 0x8DDD0009 error. I am starting to believe that it may be a hardware issue. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Type this at a command prompt:
    proxycfg -d
    net stop wuauserv
    net start wuauserv
    exit

    (enter after each line).

    Error 0x8DDD0009

I tried it and it didn't work. Let me give you specs:
    Win XP Pro SP2
    AMD K6-3D 500 MHz
    312mb RAM
    20Gb HD

I really hope someone figures this one out.

    I read this: http://talkback.zdnet.com/5208-12354-0.html?forumID=1&threadID=24550&messageID=463235&start=71

Suggesting it could be that MS changed something in their Windows Update algorithms that makes it 'time-out' on older machines...

    Another thing you could try:

Turn off your firewall, anti-spyware and antivirus, and see if you can run Windows Update.

Also check to see if your system time is correct.

How much free space left? 2Gb should be the minimum here...

You should try it, as there have been several people that reported it fixed their problem, its free.

    Another option:

    Run from a command prompt:

    net stop wuauserv

    regsvr32 wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 wups.dll
    regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
    regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
    regsvr32 wucltui.dll
    regsvr32 wuweb.dll
    regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
    regsvr32 qmgr.dll
    regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
    regsvr32 jscript.dll

    net start wuauserv

    My Solution.

This is it! This is the cause of all my problems. Since there are too many updates, the 500 MHz processor is unable to catalog all the updates and is timing out. But I have a workaround. Download and install the "Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer v2.0 (for IT Professionals) ". When you scan your computer, it will tell you every critical patch you need to download. Unfortunately, you need to download patches one at a time, but to save time, do not restart when it tells you to do so and temporarily turn off "System Restore ".

    This is what I did:
After I downloaded all twenty-one critical patches, I restarted my machine and I was able to run "Microsoft Update" and it worked. (I am assuming that it should also work for "Windows Update ")
Hope this helps out a lot of people.
