0251: System CMOS checksum bad - Default configuration used. Now this pops up before I can do anything. I realize this has something to do with my BIOS, but have no idea how to reconfigure whatever needs to be done. Despite crashing my system numerous times, this error refuses to go away. All attempts to find help have been thwarted. In the setup, resetting configurations does nothing or screws up more. IS THERE ANYONE THAT CAN HELP ME??????

    Hi Smoothoperator
    Welcome to the boards.
Did you do anything prior to this happening? A bios flash perhaps?
Have you tried changing the battery?

Hi smoothoperator - Welcome to the Board :)

Have you tried going into BIOs and loading the default settings? - set time and date while you're there.

Bad battery can also cause this problem - see here for more info.

    BIOS....

Would the BIOS happen to be the set-up screen at the bootup I'm having to go to, because the my computer won't even let windows open unless its in safe mode.

Yes, that would be it. You should have an option there on the screen, something like Fail Safe Defaults, or Setup Defaults. Pete C has you on the right track.
You would set the Date and Time under Standard CMOS settings.

Changing the battery fixed it for me.

But I also had the Bad Battery message along with the Checksum message.

And I did not attempt to even boot the machine again till I changed to battery.
