For the past few months, my system has been doing strange things. I could live with it, but now it getting irratating.

Was working normally up till then. Other than Windows updates, I don't remember installing anything new.

When I click on a link or icon, nothing happens for up to 10 seconds - then it loads. On a newly opened program, if I want to scroll down, I click on the scroll bar and 5 or 10 seconds later it moves.

Maybe related: Trying to watch almost any video is almost impossible. Even a dinky little You Tube video - plays for a few seconds, buffers for 15 or 20 seconds, then plays a few seconds. I have tried the different formats and they are all the same.

I have checked for viruses, ad ware, spy ware, cleaned out my cache and history - no improvement at all. Running out of ideas. Any other suggestions?

I'm using XP PRO svc pk3 and all the latest updates. Four gig memory and loads of hard drive space.

Bad video card drivers would cause all of the things you mentioned.

I'll check that out. Unfortunately my video in on the motherboard. I was trying to ignore that part because I didn't really want to rebuild the whole system, but it may come to that. Thanks.

You don't have to rebuild anything. You just reinstall the drivers.

I may have to. I just updated some of my drivers, but most, including the video, are up to date. This thing is starting to show it's age. I do have lots of stuff on it, and a lot of it is old enough that it won't run on on Win 7, that's why I want to wait as long as I can..I'll see if anything improved in the next day or two.

Still no improvement on my video problems. I'll see if I can dig up a video card and try that.
Will mark this as resolved for now. Thanks

I hate to admit it, but that never even crossed my mind. It's been many years since I did that - I think it was in Windows 3.1 I'll give it a try and let you know if anything turn up. Thanks.
