    Hello,
Nice to be here, I'm new to this forum. I have an Epson 1260 scanner connected to my Win XP Pro desktop - fully loaded and 6 months old. A month ago I installed the software and attached scanner into front panel USB port - it worked fine.

Then, today, I foolishly copied the Twain folder over to the Photoshop Plug Ins folder to try and use the scanner thru Photoshop, which didn't work.

When I restarted the Epson scanner, plugged into front panel USB port, it was identified as new hardware and requested the installation disk which I did.

The installer proceeds to a point where it displays a message stating that a "previous version of Smart Panel has been detected and needs to be removed "
So I "OK" that and the installation proceeds further to the Epson Smart Panel Setup EULA - where no text appears. This is not good. I click "Accept" anyway.

Then I get the following message as the installer continues to attempt installing the software.:
    Unhandled exception/ Error Number 0X80040702
Description: failed to load dll: OSInfo
    Setup will now terminate.

And it does. But, the installer actually continues and says "Installation successful" But it isn't - even after rebooting proceedure.

I found a post suggesting a logical repair of unplugging scanner, uninstalling software, restarting, reinstalling software and plugging in scanner to same USB port. This was unsuccessful for me.

I also did a REGEDIT removing all traces of "SmartPanel" I could find. Also unsuccessful.

I have repeated these steps about 4 times without a successful install.
I think the problem is with the missing dill file. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the Board Tom.
I am a Canon person with quite a few problems with the Canon Twain drivers behind me and one on the way.
My try would be to if you have the Photoshop CD to uninstall both and then download Driver Cleaner and check for any traces of Epson drivers and clean them out then re-install one at a time.
Hopefully Pete will assist you as well as he is a Photo Expert.
