When I went to print out my C.V. I opened word, then clicked on print, but it says 'Print (No Printer)', which is rubbish becasue I have printer installed, and I printed on it just a couple of weeks ago and haven't changed anything. So I did the usually thing and checked all the leads, tried again. Then I uninstalled it, re-installed it and the same thing. It just doesn't think that there is a printer there. Any ideas?

In Word, If you click on File->Print, is your printer listed/selected?

Nothing happens when I click it, or when I press Ctrl + P.

The printer may have died - any chance of trying it on another PC?

Did you follow the Epson instructions for installing the printer?

Generally speaking for Epson Printers ....

Uninstall the Epson Software through Add/Remove Programs.

Delete Printer from Printers and Faxes - if it exists

Connect the printer, but do not power up

Load the software and power up the printer when asked to do so.

My past experience with Epson printers is when they will not activate the Spooling Queue, they are rendered useless.

Just went to Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > View Installed Printers and there is nothing. So I clicked on 'Add a Printer' and a dialog box came up saying:

'Opperation could not be completed. The printer spool service is not running.'

What does this mean? Is it something to do with the process?

Here's a quote from that Microsoft site:

'Double-click the Printer Spooler service, and then change the startup type to Automatic. This sets the Spooler service to start automatically when you restart the computer.'

... The Printer Spooler service was already on automatic. It says 'Service Status: Stopped', so I clicked 'Start' and then a dialog box comes up saying:

'Could not start the Printer Spool service on the Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.'

A 1068 is a service dependency error. Print Spooler can't start because it thinks a service it depends on is not running.
Sorry to say this but the printer appears to be no longer functional and should be replaced.

Hu, why? There wasn't nothing worng with it when I printed the other week. It can't just break out of the blue. It's only new. It's been rarely used.

Sorry to disillusion you, but yes it can :(

Before doing anything rash do try it on another PC, just to be sure.

PeteC, how can it just break? If I'd knocked it or dropped it or something similar then I'd understand but I don't get how it can just die on me. Is there not another possiblity? I'll have to try it on another PC but that won't be possible for a few days.

irdreed, the printer is a Epson Stylus C42.

You have not stated anything with reference to your having visited the Epson website to look thru their Support section for a solution to your problem. Since it appears there's nothing more we can do for you may I suggest you visit Epson Support here.

BTW This is a discontinued Model and so at the age that it is, it seems to me that PeteC and my comments are accurate, sorry to say.

The best analogy I can give you is the humble light bulb - you switch it on and off daily for weeks or months, then one day 'pop' and its blown. The surge of power on switching on is the last straw on an aged filament. The same can be true of 'delicate' electronic components - over time they may age and the power surge when the unit is switched on is the last straw.
