A link to some general information; and a question: Do you need to consider whatever you decide to use is a method by which your recipient can read what you send?

dbltrbl--I did a search at www.google.com on encryption and came up with the following
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&q=encryption&btnG=Google+Search
(Notice there is a link at the bottom to many more pages than just the first page.)
Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) is one of the better known of the encryption codes for everyday users.
While I know little about this area, in answer to your second question, the receiver, of course, has to be able to decode whatever you have coded. Otherwise the receiver would be no different than any other recipient from whom you are trying to hide the message. PGP does that with "keys" at both ends.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Rather than hit a search engine cold, I was hoping to pick somebody's brain on it.

    Hiya

I used to use PGP. Very good program. You have to first create a key for yourself. Usually not a word, but a sentance is better. Also, be aware that as you type this sentance, you can have the option to not show the letter's being typed.
Plus, don't lose the key or you'll never get back in.

There are then 2 other types of key that the receiver can have. There are public and private ones. Of course, if you're gonna send a key over the email you may want to encryp it, but then it defeats the object. hmmm?

Anyway, very good and not been hacked....yet. and Its free.

    Regards

I use pgp myself. The problem, as always, is convincing the other person on the receiving end of your messages to download, install, and learn how to use pgp. If that can be done, the rest is reasonably simple.

    PGP for XP

I use PGP too and find that it works great on my machines running Win98SE BUT not on my laptop that has XP. Anybody have a clue as to where I can find a version for XP? I've looked on CNET and Network Associates but struck out. Could be that I'm just a man and can't find anything even if it's right there in front of me. You know how that is?:D
