I installed CleanCache on my XP SP1 + all updates including .Net Framework but when I run the software I find an error: Process Performance Counter is diasbled so the requested operation could not be performed

    The full details are:

I would be grateful if someone would explain how to enable the JIT Debugger so that I can use the cleaner, thanks in advance.

Sounds like your perf counters are broken. The error messages you were seeing about JIT debuggers can be ignored. Your goal is to fix the counters, not debug the script.

Give this a shot, it should resolve the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=300956

I have just read the article but it refers to windows 2000 and not XP so I am a little hesitant using this with an xp setup without asking again  would a system file check replace damaged files for me as I do not even know how they have been damaged in the first place

Finally I have fixed the issue after all day yesterday and again this morning! I decided to compare the registry on my PC to my laptop and found one little key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PerfProc\Performance (disable Counter (1) ) I modified it to (0) installed the software again and to my relief no warning this time and the software is working as it was on my laptop!

I do not know which application disabled this key on my desktop but at least I havee found out the reason for the error and was able to fix it at last.
