I been working with a friend who has a Windows 98SE system with IE 5.0, Outlook Express, and Outlook 97 installed on his system.

He was having a problem opening up file extensions in Outlook Express. We were able to fix most of the problems by deleting the Temporary Internet and Temp Files, but he is still having a problem opening files that have an .eml extension. When he tries to open these types of files he receives the error message "The File '1C:\Windows\Temp\Name of File.eml' could not be opened because it does not Exist or is being used by another application.(0x800CCF65,3)"

He has checked his file associations but when he trys to create a new association to .eml he receives the error message "The extension 'eml' is already in use by file type 'eml_Auto_file'. Choose another extension. "

Because he has both Outlook and Outlook Express installed on his system I suspect that Outlook is causing this problem.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to correct this?

    eddie5659,

Thanks for your post, but denebuff did not have Exchange installed on his system.

At any rate we finally figured out yesterday what was causing this problem. Discovered that the file association for .eml files was not configured properly and a command was missing.

    :)
