I'm home from school for the summer, and using my mom's cable line for net access (Comcast). I'm still using my school server to get and send mail. About two weeks ago, I started to get SMTP errors when trying to send messages. Now I can't send anything from within Netscape (I can send through my school's webmail interface fine). My incoming and outgoing server names are exactly the same, and I had absolutely no issues sending mail until July 2 (yes, I've been keeping track). The error message I get is "The server may be configured incorrectly or not accepting SMTP connections ". I've been pinging my server every few days and everything comes back OK. Why is it that I can get mail, but not send it?

    Hi Dreamstalker,

    A few workarounds to try:

    With Netscape closed:
    Delete the XUL.mfl file
This file is located in your *.slt Folder located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt
NOTE: These files are hidden by default.
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders

Delete the Sent.MSF Files. DO NOT delete the Sent file with no extension.
This file is located in your Mail Folder located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt\Mail\mailaccountname

If this doesn't help, then move your Sent Mail files out of the Sent Folder, then delete both Sent, and Sent.msf. Restart Netscape.... Did this work, can you send now?

    If not:

Check the SMTP server settings found under:
Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Outgoing Server (SMTP Settings) | Advanced
Ensure there is no blank space that highlights, if you click on the blank space above the SMTP server names, or below the SMTP server names. Remove any duplicate server entries, and also check that the setting is "Always use the Default SMTP server ".

What do you see listed there?

    You might also try this:
Add a fake SMTP server and make it the default. This will allow you to delete the problematic SMTP Server. Remove them all, and re-start Netscape. Then re-enter the real server data, and make the "real server" the default, then remove your fake server.

You should back up your Mail, or even your entire Profiles Folder before you start any of the above edits.

    HTH,

    Ramona :D
