I use OE 6 with XP Home and I use to always get a little email envelope showing up in my sys tray when a new message arrived. Somehow that doesn't happen anymore, and I can't figure out for the life of me how to get it back. I thought it was in the Tools/Options menu but it's driving me to distraction trying to find it and solve the mystery.
I know the minute I hear how to do it I'm going to hit myself in the head and say DUH!
    Thanks all,
    Floyd

Try right-clicking on some vacant space on the taskbar. Select "Properties ", check that you are in the Taskbar pane and click on the "Customize..." button.
Go through your current and past items to see if your mail notification has been set to "Always Hide ".

David Ryan's suggestion was also my first thought:

Click with the right mouse button in an empty area of the Windows task bar.
    Select Properties from the menu.
    Click Customize... under Notification Area.
Locate the "You have new e-mail" item.
Make sure "Always Show" is selected in the Behavior column.
    Click OK.
    Click OK again.

    If no joy, try:

    Start, Run, cmd

    MSIMN.EXE /REG
    regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msoe.dll "
    exit

Well I smacked myself in the head, said DUH, and then said of course I knew that. Thanks a million guys, guess I had a brain freeze. The Start Menu properties worked just fine.
    Thanks again.
