Recently we've changed our ISP (and gone from dsl to cable). Today when I set up my new pop mail account, I see that the Local folders are back. I've two questions about them...

    1. How do I get rid of them so that I only have the pop account and folders underneath it (i.e. Inbox, Sent.... and those folders I add)?

    2. What is the purpose of these? Why are they part of the default set-up?

    Thanks.

What is the purpose of these? . Just this part. Anything done in a newsgroup ends up in the Local Folders. I am using fake addresses, and it makes sense that my replies would not be associated with any other address.
Secondly, in the NS6/7, Webmail, if it ever works, may use local folders. This is true of a other IMAP accounts. Finally, any mail imported from other mail clients, will go there, by default.
There is no obligation in keeping the Local Folders expanded, to show the different subfolders, so the space taken is minimal. I am very good at ignoring what I don't need. Try to do the same.
