Have just installed NS7 from a CD onto my hard drive with no prior Netscape program on the drive. Everything works well but the email. When I attempt to send an email I get an alert that says: "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded : sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)

Does anyone know what the fix is for this? I am running Zonealarm Pro and Norton Antivirus with mail protection. Do those programs have something to do with the error? Help, please.

Welcome to the Forum, Mary Lou!

    Hi Mary Lou,

Yes, it could be that one or the other of these Programs have not been configured properly for Netscape 7.

I found the following two, and other similar explanations, of the error you received:

Reconfigure your email client to use your Internet provider's outgoing email gateway, also known as an SMTP server. If you do not know what the gateway is, contact your Internet provider's support personnel or search their web pages.
    ---

This is a typical error returned by a mail server when it is not prepared to act as a relay. Usually, it is because the mail server has been misconfigured and is published as the designated mail relay for the recipient in the message.

You should contact the mail server administrators to report the error, or try again later.

So it could be that you have not entered the correct SMTP information in the Mail & Newsgroups Account configuration.

Norton is sometimes tricky too, and I recall that my ISP's configuration information and that given by Symantic were quite different.

    HTH,

    Ramona :D

Huh? WOE does that mean?

The two most common causes of this message are that 1) (as Ramona said) the SMTP details have been incorrectly entered; or 2) you are trying to access the mail server of oldisp.com whilst connected to the internet via newisp.com (I'm told that this is a tactic used by ISP's in order to prevent people exchanging cans of WWII ham and pork).

Also, (a small number of) ISP's require authentication in advance of sending (there's a setting within OE which allows for the specification of such settings - maybe Ramona can clarify whether similar exists within Nutscrape?) and this "bounce" message can be generated if that option has not been checked. A workaround (which more often than not doesn't actually work!) is to check for mail immediately prior to sending.

I doubt that either ZoneAlarm or Norton is to blame; however, try disabling them and see what happens - just so as to eliminate 'em.

    Good luck!

Neither, rain or snow, or, ... you get it. The Mail goes on!

Thank you so much Ramona and Brett. My Mail Server Provider had to do something on his end to clear the problem. I am still waiting to hear the details of what had to be done and will post same if it might be useful to others.

    :D

This error occurs when your IP address—used to access the Internet—is not recognized by your mail system. This error displays as part of the anti-spamming protection service.

To resolve this error and start sending email through your mail server, you must first check for new messages before sending outgoing messages. Once the mail system has recorded your IP address and associated it with your account, you can begin sending and receiving email again.
Also in your e-mail client under Edit, then Mail & Newsgroups Account, make sure, that in "Server Settings ", and "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" you have exactly same info.
Just in case in Zone Alarm, make sure, that in "Program Control ">Programs, next to Netscape, you have "check" "check" "question mark" "question mark "
