I get e-mails attachments from people who use msn or hotmail that I can't open. Sometimes they are sent with an .email extension or a .dat extention. My computer opens them with Notepad but the picture, or whatever is being sent with it is coming through as binary code so I can't view it. How can I open these correctly?

Nope! I'm afraid not. The .DAT extension is used for data files that are created by a specific program and cannot be generically used outside the program that creates them except under certain circumstances where the author has made the files available to other platforms.

You'll have to ask the sender what program created the file so you'll have a clue as to what you can view it with.
