I have an Outlook Express mailbox (including Sent Items and Deleted Items) that has been allowed to get to large. Now I am starting to have intermittent problems with deleting and accessing email. Is anyone aware of any software utility that will copy all messages from designated Outlook Express mailboxes?

cefwin - Welcome to the Board :)

There are several methods/software which enable you to back up Outlook Express - to save me typing I have posted the Google search and would start at the top ....

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...=result&cd=1&q=Backup+Outlook+Express&spell=1

I would back up regularly and use a program such as DBExtract to extract items from the backed up .dbx files when required.

You can save the emails as .txt files, but as far as I recall each email must be saved individually and the process cannot be applied to multiple mails simultaneously.

I must ask one question though - why is your Deleted Items folder so large? Surely if you have deleted as opposed to filed the emails they are no longer relevant?

    I suggest .....

As there is a hint of a problem with OE search your computer for *.dbx files and delete (OE must be closed) Deleted Items.dbx. It will be recreated when OE is next opened and the new folder will be free from any potential corruption.

    &

Tools > Options > Maintenance and check 'Empty messages from the 'Deleted Items' folder on exit'.

I create new folders like OLDINBOX and then drag last years mail there....Can click on one mail - hold the shift key and scroll down and click another mail. It will highlight all main inbetween. Can then drag the wole group to another folder.
