First here is my computer spec:
    AMD Duron 1G (not overclock)
    Asus A7V133-C
    256M PC133 RAM
    Seagate Baracuda IV 40G
    Quantum 3G
    Eagle 32M TNT2 M64 AGP
    Creative Vibra 128 sound card
    Realtek 10/100 NIC
    SONY 48x CDRom
    SONY CRX-100E CDRW

I have just installed windows xp.

And the problem is, when I play a Audio CD using my Sony 48x cdrom, the sound becomes jerky and have echoes. Using Windows Media Player and Winamp 2.78 is the same.

No problem playing MP3 CD using the Sony 48x CD.
No problem playing Audio CD or MP3 CD using my Sony CDRW.

Only playing Audio CD using the Sony 48x cdrom the sound is jerking.

Never have problems with Windows 2000 or Windows ME.

By the way, I have cleaned install my Windows XP Pro.

Please help as I need to listen to audio cd, and it's quite annoying listening double sound.

    Thank you.

Check the device manager for any conflicts or errors that could inpact on the sound card or system resources.

Right click on the taskbar and select Task Manager and look in the Process and Performance tabs to see if a programme or task is hogging the system resources etc. The System Idle Process should be in the high 90's indicating nothing else using too many resources. Most of the other processes should be 00.
CPU usage in the Performance tab should be humming away between 0-10% when the system is fairly idle unless you have some background tasks working, and make sure the memory usage display below is not showing all your memory used.

Go to Creative and download the latest drivers for the Vibra 128 for XP.

If the above doesn't show anything unusual, try removing the card from the device manager and let Windows redetect it. Secondly remove it from the device manager and move the card to another PCI slot on the M/B.

OK hears one last thingy to try. Reverse the order of the CDROM and CDRW on the IDE port, and while your at it try the CDROM on its own.
My CDRW didn't like being the master on IDE 2. I had to slave it to the DVD drive as XP only detected it 50% of the time. Windows (even XP) can be very frustrating. Remember to remove them from the device mngr before changing the order.

    goodluck

Paul, thanks for trying to help me.

No luck, I guess it's just XP that doesn't like my CDRom .

I've ditched XP and back to 2000.

Everything is PERFECT now in 2000 ;)

Spent so much money on XP but ended up in the trash anyway  !!!

    Thanks paul!
