Hi - I've read most of what is available on the internet before posting this question and can find a lot of answers but nothing specific to this problem. Someone has sent me an emailed EBAY web page and since then, I cannot delete the email itself. It is a Internet Explorer Script Error - error "ebay is undefined" and asks if I want to continue running scripts on this page. It doesn't matter when I press yes or no - because it just doesn't progress. I have checked and rechecked the disable script bugging and notification of script bugging etc. I am sending and receiving other emails with no problem. Other sites I have seen recommend to uninstall OE and reinstall - do you think this is the only option? I am running Outlook Express 6 with XP and IE7
    Thanks

Hi Deborah - Welcome to the Board :)

I remember having script errors when I dabbled on eBay some time ago, but had no problems deleting their mail. This is a somewhat different situation ....

I assume you can delete other emails? If you can I suggest a 'brute force' method ....

Create a new folder in OE and name it InboxOld

Highlight all messages in the Inbox except the eBay one and drag them to InboxOld. Close Outlook Express.

Then search for Inbox.dbx - you will have to search Hidden Files & Folders in the Search function in Explorer (under more advanced options) and delete it.

Restart OE and Inbox will be recreated - drag your emails from InboxOld into the Inbox and delete the InboxOld folder.

In theory this will work, in practice ??? :)

I'm afraid so, That was the only way to get rid of the issue for me, but make sure you delete you e-mail account settings & restart pc before reinstall.

Thanks for such a quick response!! I have tried the inbox.dbx search with no results so it looks like I will have to remove and reinstall O/E. Can you advise of a website that will detail how to do this...being a beginner and all!! Thanks again

Strangest thing just happened. I went back to OE which said that it did not shutdown properly and I was able to highlight the "evil" email and delete it!!! So all is well!! Thanks again.

    Wonders never cease:)

For future reference if you click in OE on Tools > Options > Maintenance > Store Folder button the location of your message store is shown.....

    C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{17F6584F-9827-408F-90B2-38A015FA81E4}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Inbox.dbx

The numerical string may not be the same. You will need to enable Show hidden files and folders in the View menu in Windows Explorer (Tools > Folder Options > View tab)
