I finally bit the bullet and made the change from Earthlink to Embarqmail. Since the deadline was looming I had to do it. Had planned to do it a lot sooner but family health issues took front burner.
Anyway, I followed all the rules from the previous thread:
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=65045
    Incoming mail server: pop.embarqmail.com
    Outgoing mail server: smtp.embarqmail.com
Use your email address as your username
Also make sure you check Outgoing server requires secure authentication. (use same login settings as incoming mail server.)

What I learned from this was , do not check use secure authentication in server settings for incoming mail. Leave that Never.
With outgoing: bullet the TLS, if available. Check mark use name and password.
Hopefully I won't have any problems down the road. People are still reporting slow servers or frequent down servers. Embarq assures me that is improving. I really debated leaving my earthlink email but the idea of paying more money monthly for internet service just didn't sit well with me.
So thanks Ramona for this great site. It got me the answers I needed once again!

Thanks Ramano. I have found this forum so helpful that I just wanted to return the favor.
Another thing I discovered is when people complain the embarq server is so slow, what they really mean is the embarq web mail page is SLOW!!! But using TB, I have no problem getting or sending mail quickly.

FYI Embarqmail has been down for most of the last two days. It appears they are getting overwhelmed by the changeovers this month and whoever designed their equipment apparently mis-judged the volume they would have to deal with. My email is dribbling in like the old water torture. Today I got an email that was sent yesterday.

I would suggest that until they are up to speed people use alternate email servers if they want a timely email contact and are assured their email gets through. Some of mine have disappeared into the big black hole.

Their email has been spotty since I changed over in June and lately I have had a daily dustup with them until they finally admit they are having problems. They keep trying to tell me it's my equipment and once one of their tech. service people had me change settings in the guts of my computer and when that didn't work told me my NIK card was bad. I knew it wasn't and had to restore my computer to the day before since it was so messed up. There was a two hour delay between when the system went down until the support people were notified. I was unfortunate enough to contact them during that two hour period. Therefore if you should contact them make sure they have verified that they are in fact up.

Both my wife and I use outlook express and outlook. Up until we switched over in June we never had a problem with Earthlink so we found out the correct settings from Embarq, set them, and got our email just fine. I won't use the My Embarq home page because it is just too busy and takes a very long time to load on DSL at 5M speed. Then we started having outages and I finally learned after a lot of teeth gnashing that when Embarq set up the email hardware someone underestimated the amount of equipment needed and they have been trying to catch up and add enough since. The last supervisor I talked to said it will probably be towards the end of Oct or Nov before they are up to speed.

We both leave our email programs minimized so it checks every 10 min. or so since we do quite a bit of eBay communication. Someone at Embarq just blew it by not being forward thinking.

Since they are trying to catch up the email is dribbling in here very slowly. I just got one that was sent this morning. That is not good when dealing with potential customers. Earlier today I got one that was sent from this forum when I registered Yesterday.

We just have to grit our teeth and bear it.

I also had problems with my mail the past 2 days. Sometimes I could send it but not receive it. Received the time out pop notice. Could go on embarq web mail site and get it but so slow! When I transferred over the lady told me most people had already transferred and yes they knew they had problems but were working on them and they didn't expect a big problem when everyone transferred. Ha! If I can't get my mail at all, then that is a problem.
I have noticed a decrease in my incoming mail lately. I am wondering if my sent mail isn't going into people's junk mail automatically with the name embarqMAIL! and they are not getting my mail.
Guess I will have to write everyone from my yahoo address to let them know I am still here with a new address.

When I booted up this AM there were 6 emails from yesterday and my wife, who is online in the middle of the night, said it appears to be fairly stable this morning. I believe Embarqmail was considered to be a spammer by AOL and Hotmail when they automatically sent out advisories back in June for people to update the server name from Earthlink to Embarqmail. We have had to advise people to check their spam folder and sure enough there were our emails so if we don't get the expected reply from our emails, we send a second via gmail or attach a receipt to make sure the person got it.

Hopefully they will get it solved soon.
