I used Netscape (more recently 7.2) for a number of years as a browser, and operatied my e-mail xxxxxx@inreach.com. Over the years the e-mail accumulated and I organized it into several local folders. Recently I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall Netscape 7.2. I did backup all the Mozilla subdirectories. Problem: How do I integrate these old Mozilla files (which contain all my local forlders) into my new Netscape 7.2 ? Thanks --drtutu

If you backed up your profile, i.e. the xxxxxx.slt folder, which contains all your personal data, and have set up your (hopefully single) mail account. and, then copy the old .slt, and pasted it in the Mozilla Profile folder, you should be able to change the path of the account Local Directory, and, use it after restarting Netscape. I have several accounts, and, once, I did not even bother moving the .slt folder from its backed up location. My path, at least, for that account led to My Documents.
Since you backed up the folders, you must know that the profile folders are hidden, by default, in post Me OS.
I, personally, do nothing with the Local Folders, preferring to create folders, or subfolders of that account. But not many have 8-10 accounts. t can be like trying to herd cats.

I have already done that. When I access my e-mail in Netscape 7.2, it shows "Local Folders ". When I right click and access properties, it shows the location of the files. When I go to the location my old local folders are all there, but I can't see or access them in the current Local Folders. When I pasted the old profiles into the new, reinstalled Netscape, the name of the .slt has changed. I tried to keep both the .slt files, removed one or the other etc. Nothing seems to work. The location of the files is: C:/documents & settings/ user/Application Data/Mozilla/Profiles/Default/.slt/Mail/Local Folders. Thanks ---drtutu

I don't think that you understood what I said. You have to create an account, first. Secondly, have both .slt folders in your profile folder, and, change the path of the Local Directory to the one you want. If you have both .slt folders, you should be able to hit the Browse button, and change the path.
If you have Local folders only, that's ok, but you should have also an Inbox, Sent and Trash, at least.

When I reloaded my Netscape 7.2, I opened my e-mail account (for xxxxxx@inreach.com) and have been regularly checking my e-mail (and composing, sending etc). The problem is that along with my inbox, sent, drafts, templates, and Junk, there is an additional "local folders" in which there are folders (empty) for drafts, sent, templates, unsent messages, and trash; There is no inbox. I did use the browse button to change the path to one or the other .slt file to no avail. I still can't see them. I use these local folders in which there are sub-directories for all my e-mail partners. I had these for almost 8 years. I also have all my business e-mails in there. ---drtutu

You have a normal set up, and you would not have anything in Local folders. Local Folders are to store sent mail from some IMAP account (like the old netscape.net, aim.com, and aol.com), as well as certain newsgroups. There would be no Inbox, because the Inbox of the IMAP accounts is available in the same place where a standard POP account is, and there is no way to receive mail from newsgroups.
I have seen mail imported from Outlook Express in Local Folders.
I assume that you gave some name to these sbfolders, or whatever they are. In this case, you should be able to find them, doing a search, or even without doing that, right in your backed up folder. If you don't find them anywhere, they were not backed up.

I am sorry, this seems simple but may be way over my head. The sub folders are for each individual. When I receive e-mail, I read it and then move it from my inbox to the appropriate sub directory in the local folders. I have been doing this for years. There are all there, both in the back up directory, as well as in the current Local Folders (as I said when I right click on the Local folders and go into properties, it does show me the right path and location of the local folders, except I can't access them in Netscape. They are all there, but I can 't view them or use them in Netscape 7.2. In my previous posting, I gave the path where the local folders are. When I click on that local folders, it opens and in box and it has all my sub directories. The current Local folders points to these but doesn't show then in the current Netscape. I am sorry, but this the best way I can explain. Frustrated! Thanks. ---drtutu

    Welcome to the Forum, drtutu!

    drtutu,

When you did the backup of your Profile data, did you copy the Profiles folder: C:/Documents & Settings/user/Application Data/Mozilla/Profiles

If so, all that is necessary is to copy the backup Profiles folder, then paste it into the Mozilla folder. Thus replacing the new Profiles folder which was created when you installed Netscape. Are we on the same page?
