With a jpg attachment in the body of an E-mail, I click on the right hand paper clip to get full picture.
The icons of the message and attachment appear as usual.
Clicking on the JPG icon and I get the following box.
"Windows cannot find program.exe. This program is needed for opening files of type 'JPG file' "
I never had this problem with Win 95 or Win 98

    Any suggestions ?

Walt--It really is not so strange, after all, that you can open the .jpg file from the paper clip but not by clicking on the .jpg file itself. You use Outlook Express (msimn.exe) to open the file when you click the clip, whereas you would use whatever program is associated with the .jpg file type to open when you click on the file itself. That should be iexplore.exe. If your present settings are to use program.exe, you should make the correct association to iexplore.exe.
The above is based on WIN98, so may not be correct for a more recent version.

I agree, it's not unusual for the browser to open attachments by those two methods, depending on how you ask it.

It has always been my experience that when the browser is open and you try to view an attachment without actually clicking on the true file name, just the CLIP, IE will open it for you (If you have that association set in VIEW properly).

Secondly, if you double click the actual file, Windows will look for the association you have assigned for that type of file when not using the browser. That will ordinarily be your favorite graphics editor, depending on how you chose to associate those type in VIEW again.

The error message you are getting "Cannot find program.exe" doesn't mean that Windows is looking for a file called "Program.exe" per se, it means there is NO program presently associated with this file type or if there is, it can't locate it. Could be you lost your graphic editor or the association is in need of review/change or possibly Windows is having a PATH problem.

Check 'em all and you'll probably hit on something.
