I am wondering if others have experienced a problem when playing DVDs.

    The problem is this:
Suppose I copy a DVD using a program such as DVD Shrink 3.1 or DVD FAB Platinum.

The DVD disk used as the target is a MAXELL or RIdata "¦i.e. some DVD disks you can purchase at a store selling computer supplies.

When I try and play the resultant DVD it will play for about 20 minutes and then go into banana land. All I need to do then is pull the DVD, wave it in the air for a minute or so to cool it down. I then put it back into the player start it at the place where it went bonkers and play it for another brief interval. The successive playing intervals get progressively shorter and shorter.

Now I view this is as a heating problem. Are there special DVDs that have better stability under heating conditions.

Has anyone else experienced this problem.

    Has anyone a proposed solution?

Am I looking at it the right way or is the problem other than what I suggested?

I think you may be looking at the wrong end of the stick :)

Maybe the DVD player itself playing up and it is that which needs to take a rest and cool down, not the disk ...
Do you experience the same phenomema when playing a retail DVD? If you do it is the player, but I feel sure that you have considered this.

Do the burnt DVD's exhibit the same behaviour on another DVD player?

I have never heard - on this BBS at least, of overheating DVD disks :)

Perhaps two is a crowd, but I've never heard this either - no, not even in banana land. I'd be similarly inclined to fault the DVD drive itself and not the media. One could try a lens cleaning disc with the little "hairs" on it but stay away from the pepper spray.

    ;)
