[dvdrom doesn't read data dvd's]

    I have cd/rw/dvd rom. dvds play fine but it won't read data dvds

    The first thing I would investigate is that the drive cannot read the media. Try a different brand of media. Can the disks be read on another computer?

    If it is a problem with the media, a firmware update from the drive manufacturer's website might allow them to be read.
