DVD to iPod convertor software

    My son just bought a new iPod and wants to put a DVD movie on it. He found a couple links for converting software, but he needs to buy them before trying them. Is there any converting software that is free for a few conversions? I haven't been able to find one. If not, any personal experience with software that you would recommend? Thanks for any help!
