I recorded a show directly from TV to DVD using my GoVideo dvd/vcr recorder. I did all of the finalizing etc. I can play it and hear it both on my TV as well as on my XP SP2 Dell PC (using windows media player)

My daughter has an IBM laptop (not sure which one ) with WinXP SP2. She can see the video but gets no sound. She can hear sounds using Windows media player for other things and her sound works for all other programs she has tried..

She will be doing some extensive traveling for work and I want to record her shows to DVD for her so she can play them when traveling

Anybody have any ideas as to what I can do.

    Thanks, Georgia

PS: Have tried contacting Go Video but no luck - for reasons to numerous to go into here.

Are both computers running the same version of WMP?
If yes, do both have all updates applied?
If yes, duplicate the same "file associations" choices in WMP (Tools / Options / File types) listed in your computer to your daughters computer.

Not sure exactly what you mean - My WMP not have a tools option choices in it. Windows Explorer file associations not list WMP. When I play the DVD I just open WMP, then under the choices where it shows the drive letter double click on the drive my DVD is in and it plays.

Actually I do not think this is the problem. Cannot check until Sat or Sunday on her PC, she is currently on aplane to California.

well- it turns out that the problem is as follows.
The IBM Thinkpad has 3 tiny buttons near the top of the keyboard on the laptop - one for volume increase on the hardware, 1 for volume decrease and one for mute. These buttons are over and above volumes ones you change via software. I found out about them by calling her help desk and that was the first thing they mentioned.

Neither she nor I were aware of these buttons. It seems that most things play fine the way she had it set but the DVD needed to have the volume button turned way up in order to hear it.

She apparently does not know her work PC very well and today was the first day I ever saw it. I do not use a laptop.

    Thanks,

    :)

Thanks for replying back with the solution. :D
It would appear your daughter was not the first person to have this issue with her IBM laptop.
