    Gentlemen, I have a Plextor DVD-RW PX-712A designated as Drive "G: ".

I have Windows XP Pro SP2. On my Windows User account, I can easily pop in an empty CD-R, double click the Drive G: icon, and it opens up ready for me to use...add files, or whatever.

However, this is not the case on my brother's user account. On his account, double clicking the same Drive G: with the empty CD-R yields the following error:

My brother has been pulling his hair over this issue. Everytime he wishes to burn or make a CD, he has to switch to my User Account JUST to make a CD!

    Any pointers?

The standard MS answer to this is here, but I doubt that's the problem!

Your brother may not have permission to use the burning program - navigate to the .exe file for that program, right click > Properties > Security tab and check the permissions for his account.

    I'll have to try that.

I have Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 anyway, so that can't be the problem.

What do you mean "navigate to the .exe file "? There is no program when you're just using the standard Windows XP burning capability that I know of. It's just drag and drop files to the CD-RW icon/folder. How would I know what program is associated with that?

As a general rule it is recommended to turn off Windows native burning software when using third party burning software, but clearly it works for you.

Can your brother access Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 from his account?

Logged onto his account open up My Computer, right click on the burner > Recording tab and check that ' Allow burning on this drive' - or words to that effect - I don't have a recording tab - is checked.

This is a User Account problem I feel sure, but it's not a facility I use, being a single user on this PC.

It's incredible how easy that solved the problem PeteC. All I had to do was put a check mark on in that check box, and bingo, it worked! Wonder how that got disabled from the first place. Thanks very very much! :)

You're welcome - if only all CD-R, etc problems were that easy to solve :)
Possible that it is not enabled by default on another User account.
