I would like to know which type is (and or will be) the one that is most desirable. Which one is used for rental? Will this be like the Beta or VHS fiasco. I am thinking of buying a unit for my Computer, and one for the TV. I do not want to have to buy new ones, because I have the wrong type. Also I do not want to buy the wrong type for right now. Thanks in advance for any help.

wahlroot--It is a bit of a Beta vs. VHS situation, but perhaps a bit less of a nuisance (other than increased cost) since more and more players and recorders can handle both

wahlroot--You are welcome. You will find that all that article says is that there are several competing formats. DVD-RAM is the least likely to win out, but I doubt anyone can tell you today whether DVD+ or DVD- will win. In fact DVD Dual Layer will probably be the winner. That equipment is still a bit expensive, but I think single layer DVD's will be still be playable (and vice versa, DL DVD's will play on today single sided equipment). But you better ask about that latter statement.
