DVD Problem

    A friend of mine has recently added a DVD drive on his pc, and he used to watch dvd fines ... Now a particular DVD is playing the sound but he is getting no picture (sound only) ... any ideas what might be the problem with this particular DVD ... he has installed DVD Region Free, but still to no avail.

    Moreover, he is using Power DVD to watch DVDs.

    Any suggestions pls ?

    Not all DVD's are created equal :) I have some movies produced by Pinnacle Studio which will not play on the PC, but play OK in a regular DVD player.

    Have your friend try the DVD in a regular DVD player plugged into the TV - if it plays satisfactorily on that then there would appear to be an incompatability in the DVD format which prevents it from being played on the PC DVD player. Not a lot you can do about that :)

    I doubt there's a problem with the DVD player if it plays other DVD's OK. However it might be worth his while going to the manufacturer's web site to see if there is a Firmware update available.

    Another suggestion is to try some other DVD player software - trial of WinDVD here, and more here

    I might add to try uninstalling and reinstalling Power DVD.
