DVD player wont read DVD

I am trying to play a DVD on my computer and it wont read the disc. In My Computer the icon for my DVD player doesnt change, and even launching the DVD Player has no effect. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Is this a new DVD player or is this a problem that just popped up? Also, what OS are you using?

Its not a new DVD player and i am running win98SE. I'm pretty sure its the DVD not the computer though.

Was the DVD playing previously? WEre you viewing movies or playing music?

I had a similar problem. The light was on, the tray opened but nothing happened. I had the cables connected incorrectly.

I think you need to give out more information. Exactly what happens? Does the light go on? Does the tray open & eject?
