My Sony DVD player will not allow me to open the tray to play a CD. When I push the button outside the unit, it clicks but does not open. Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks.

You talking about in your PC? If so, there are 2 things that you can try. Go to My computer/Computer and then Right click on the drive and choose Eject.
Or get a paper clip and straighten it out and there is a little hole that you can put it in and it will hit the release switch. Be gentle doing this as you can break the switch pretty easy.

MrBill types faster than I do so I've scrubbed my post which says the same thing, but was more verbose :)

Actually a left click on the drive should open it - a right click opens up a menu, select Eject.

I will try not to be more verbose next time. :D

I changed the left click to right click. Was a typo on my part.

Click tip or the paper clip tip? I have had both of them work more than once.

I am not saying that it don't have one, but have seen hundreds and they all have one. It is usually pretty close to the button that you push to open the tray with.

I'm looking at 3 Drives with different hole positioning. You're looking for a hole about 1m/m in dia. Majority of drives have the hole near the button.
Look along the case midway on Asus. One drive I have has the hole ¾ the way to the left of the open button. Neil.

ps. I did download a bit of software a few years ago which enabled you to use your mouse to open and close the drive door from the Taskbar. I think it was for XP.

That has been built into Windows I know since 98. Don't remember about 95 though. Just right click on the drive and you will see EJECT. Left click should open it unless there is a stuck disc in it. That would be one less program to download as especially years ago, HD's were so small and most needed everything that they could get.

Sorry MrBill. I should have specified which worked. Paper clip worked just the one time but the eject tip got it opening consistently. So thanks again.

Finally my old eyes found the pin hole. A paper clip solved the problem.
    Thanks to all!

Glad you got it fixed. Also, if this happens quite often, going to the device manager and uninstalling it, then shut the PC off completely then restart and let windows pick it up will cure the problem. Not all the time will this work.

Please mark this thread as resolved.

My computer requires to open the flap above the switch - pin hole located bottom right and is slightly off centre. Paper clip tip does work.
