    My DVD player won't work. Went Into Device Manager, saw the yellow ?...knew something Is wrong. I tried to up date the driver. Said the divice Is either Missing or corrupt. I think I have a virus...computer...windows XP running very slow. I cannot get a restore point to try to fix anything and because the DVD player won't work, I cannot download or put any DVD's In to check with spyware. I ran my spybout but that did not do any good. I also have stop Zilla which Is usually great but have notice that It does not even contain my "black list" In It now....a lot of things not working right. I did have Norton but the new 2006 made It almost Impossible to use my computer so I took It out. I have AVG and that has not found anything but there Is something really wrong.
    Any help appreciated.

    plug & play

    The "universal fix" for flagged hardware in Device Manager is to boot into Safe Mode and delete the device. Reboot. Plug & Play should do "new hardware found" and reinstall it. If the DVD player isn't working at all now then you have nothing to lose. Try that first and see if your system is still hosed. Post any new information, system status etc..

    DVD player In The "Yellow" In Device Manager

    Hello MilesAFront,
    I went Into safe mode,Device Manager,clicked On Uninstall and then rebooted. It did tell me found new hardware. When I clicked on It-went away. Went back Into Device Manager and Pioneer DVD was still In the yellow...did not work. Thank you so much for you help.
    I also downloaded "Advanced Registery Optimiser" and cleaned the registery In case there was a problem there before I un Installed the hardware.
    What next?:confused::)

    Power down the computer. Open the case and carefully unplug the ribbon cable and reconnect (at both ends) Do the same for the power supply cable although I doubt there is a problem there if the drive is recognised.

    Check on the rear of the DVD drive for a small jumper across a couple of pins - gently ease part way off and replace.

    Above should deal with any faulty/dirty connections.

    Look for an update for the IDE Controller driver. This is part of the chipset drivers. If it is a branded computer, like a Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway, etc, you will find the drivers at their website. If is not a branded computer, Everest in my signature may be able to identify the motherboard model or it will be in the manual that came with the computer.

    If it happens to be an Intel chipset, look at the motherboard/computer manufacturer's website for "Intel INF Updates ".

I went Into my computer...and It was not there so that I could click on the Icon to start It;went Into Device Manager and It also has the yellow excla. mark and says the same for my tower dvd player: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.The driver may be corrupted or missing ( code 39). Soooooooo,It has to be another problem. Help!!! Maybe I can bring back my new LG that cost me over $100.:rolleyes:

    DVD Player not working

    OH My God!!!!! It worked! Thank you so much!!!!! I did as you said.Went Into the device mangaer,deleted my dvd that was listed. Clicked on the link that you sent.It brought me to a page that I could have the registery fixed automatically:D(It explained this error often happens when you remove or change a program) so I clicked on that and rebooted!!! then A popup said, "found new hardware." as It did before....went Into the device manager. I was afraid to look...lol....and presto....the yellow excllamation make was gone and the player now works.
    Again....thank you so much!! Bev
