Windows 2000 became unstable and was unable to finish shutdown, forcing the RESET button. Nero was running at the time. After rebooting, both DVD drives disappeared from both Windows Explorer and Device Manager. A Google search suggested I uninstall Nero and InCD. Despite a power off/on, uninstalling Nero and InCD, and uninstalling Daemon Tools, the drives are still gone. At least when Win98 did this, I could use a real mode driver. Is there any way to get these drives back?

Assuming the drives weren't damaged, suspect you'll have to remove the 2K partition, make a new one and do a fresh install of 2K. It's likely damaged if it doesn't see the drives as new hardware on booting. Before doing all that, you might try substituting an old CD drive to see if it's recognized
