Hi everyone....I bought a brand new Internal Dual Format DVD+-RW/+-R Drive and I got it installed fine but then it told me to reboot and when it came back up to XP it had installed another drive that I don't have (I have 2 cd-rom slots and one had a cd-rw burner in it, the other now has the dvd burner) but its seeing 3 cd-drives and all are working perfectly according to the device manager.....has anyone ever experienced this or know how to fix it????? It also can't copy cd's due to some weird error. Does anyone know how to solve this??

Nahash - welcome to the Board :)

Go into Device Manager and expand the DVD/CD-ROM line - you have 3 devices showing?

Are all three different or have you a duplicate entry for the DVD drive or the CD-RW drive.

If you have a duplicate remove it in Device Manager and reboot. Check Device Manager again - if only the DVD drive and the CD-RW drive are listed the problem is solved.

Personally I would be inclined to remove all three devices under DVD/CD-ROM drives and reboot. Windows should find and identify both drives and supply the drivers - they are Windows generic drivers.

How many burning programs have you installed - a single piece of software, most likely that which was supplied with the DVD drive should suffice. Two or more may cause conflicts and to be on the safe side it is best to disable the native XP burning feature on each drive.

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah I have three totally different devices in the device manager. One is the dvd burner(DVDRW IDE1008), the other is cd burner(SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-224B), and then theres a weird one(VOBID InstantDrive CD SCSI CdRom Device). I installed the piece of burning software that came with the drive (its a combo pack like Nero sorta......its called Instant CD+DVD) I tried uninstalling and then before rebooting I went to "check for hardware updates" and it reinstalled both the CD-Rom drive and the weird drive....the DVD drive claims it has to be shut down before it can be fully uninstalled. I'll try to reboot with them all uninstalled...hopefully that works. How would you find out what kinds of DVD's your drive writes to??? is there like a website or something? or do you have to call the Tech. Support people? (We bought a 25 pack of dvds but it doesn't seem to like them)

I Googled VOBID InstantDrive and came up with this ....

    http://computercops.biz/sl-4100.html

It's part of Pinnacles Instant CD/DVD burning software which is what you have. How it works I don't know, but it is a virtual CD-ROM drive, so it's appearance in Device Manager is OK.

Try the drive manufacturer's web site first - it can be a nightmare!
