got me stumped on this one.

have a dell 8400 where i can boot to a cd via the dell boot menu. no problem. dvd drive also reflects in the bios.

problem within windows xp device is not listed. when i uninstall the device thru device manager and then refind hardware thru add hardware it tells me there is a problem. tells me error code 39 driver missing or corrupt. when i run the firmware update from dells site for this phillips device that update tells me no device found.

im lost whats happening here ??? how can it be functional as a boot device but not within windows ???

    help.
