Is the procedure for swapping two DVD drives the same as for changing HDs? For example; 1. remove the drive letter E:, 2. re-assign drive letter F: to E:, 3. assign drive letter F: to the past E:. I worry about this change, because it once was an insane procedure, fraught with problems. Thank you.

Don't think you can remove a drive letter...

    Change E to "G "
    Change F to E
    Change G back to F

Click Start>Right click on Computer>Click Manage>Select Disk Management then right click on the drive you want to change (you may have to scroll down the bottom pane to see the DVD drives) and select 'Change Drive Letter' and it will give you all the available letters.

Steve is correct, you can only remove a drive letter if you uninstall the drive.
