This is so ridiculous. I have a DVD drive that came with my computer. I have movie-player software... So I should be able to watch a movie right? Nope.. Gotta get a decompressor / decoder. Without it, the movies won't play.. Why the heck doesn't Microsoft include a decompressor / decoder with its' OS ? Or for that matter, why doesn't the drive manufacturer include one in the software bundle? What good is a movie player that can't play?

Arrg!! Are there any decoders out there available for download? I've looked, but the only things I've found available are players that DON'T include the decompressor... So frustrating...

    Thanks for letting me vent!!

Decoders and players are really different name for the same thing. If you have a decoder (such as WinDVD or PowerDVD) installed, then it *should* be able to play DVD's!

Are you receiving some sort of error message when you try to play a DVD? If so, what does it say?

You'll find a wealth of information here.
