Hi Folks last week I posted about losing my drives because I installed Roxio Creator Media 9. Thanks to one of the guys I was able to recover the drives and everything was working great. I uninstalled Creator 9 because it just wasn't working and reinstalled Roxio Creator 5.

Now, I can see my drives on "My Computer" (which I couldn't do last time) and it says that both drives are functioning correctly BUT they are not. Neither drive will read any disks that I put in them When I click open a message comes up and tells me to put a disk in that drive.

Anyone have any suggestions that I might try.

    TIA, Lorreen

I'm back again. After playing with the drives I ended up uninstalling the drivers, restarting the computer and discovered that the drives now work, however, they only work once or twice and then they quit again. I have uninstalled a couple of time and each time they work but then quit. I do notice that when they quit the drives all read "CD Drive" instead of what they actually are such as DVD, CD/RW etc.

    Help me out here please.

    TIA, Lorreen

    Hi, Lorreen.

Do you have driver disks that came with your CD/RW and DVD drives? If so, perhaps installing those drivers will fix your problem.

Perhaps drivers for your particular drive models are available at your CD/RW and DVD drive manufacturers' websites.

If you need to determine the exact manufacturers and model numbers of your drives, Belarc Advisor will give you that information.

    Hi Loreen,

    Roxio point you to this:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316529

They have repair programs for missing drives:
    http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/EEZ000005
Although your drives appear, but they don't function correctly.

You can check the ASPI layer using the instructions to get ASPICHK.exe here:
    http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/VideoWave/EVW000054

Something I would try is to boot into Safe Mode and uninstall Roxio there (if you have Direct CD, uninstall that as well), reinstall when you boot back into normal mode.

    Matt
