I just noticed something strange about my DVD burner,LG 4081, that has me concerned.
After removing a burned DVD I noticed multiple scratch marks on the burned side of the DVD.
However before burning I carefully checked the surface and it was scratch free.
Any ideas how the burner may be scratching the DVD during the burn process?

It looks as if something is catching on the disk as it is loaded or rotated - AFAIK the disk is lifted off the tray after insertion and before it is spun up. If the scratches are circumferential - parallel to the circular outline of the disk then insufficient lift could be the problem.
Scratches in any other orientation may be caused by loading/unloading. If you can check for any debris in the burner - good puff of compressed air may do the trick!

Always possible that the drive is failing :(
