    Hi, newbie here...

I just fired up the new PC with XP and want to create user accounts for the wife and kids.

I did this before on my 98 pc. Set up everthing I wanted for everyone on the first account then set up new ones. 98 would use the settings i.e desktop, from the current profile to create the new ones. XP doesn't seem to do that, or I can't find how. I get the default outa the box setup in the new accounts.

When creating user accounts in XP is there a way to force it to use the settings from the existing account or am I forced to customize each starting with the default?

I also have a question about removing Win98 start up log on after deletion of accounts HERE

    Thanks Newt,

I posted the 2 threads at the same time and made reference to each.

Your link looks like what I need.

The 98 fix didn't quite work. See the other thread for details.

    Thanks again Newt!

I used the MS instructions on creating the custom default user, but I've notice something odd. I called the first account I created "test account ". Once I had that set up exactly as I wanted, I copied it to the default as described in the MS article.

Now, when I look at the "My documents" folder in any of the user accounts created with the customized default, it's displayed as "test account's documents ". Everyone of the new user documents folder names are the same.

When creating the custom default user profile, it literally copied everything, like the folder names. The default user profile has become registered somehow as having the name "test account "!

These folder names are only visible if you use explorer. I guess it's really not that big a deal since, they come up as "My..." in regular file dialog boxes.

Anyone have a clue how I can change those folder names to reflect the user profiles they're in. XP won't allow me to rename them since they're considered system files. Better yet, is there anyway to restore the default naming in the default user profile so the next profile I create will come up with the proper user name on the folders?
