I just installed a wireless router for two laptops in the office. Since the first laptop doesn't get a strong connection, we decided to disable the wireless connection and stick with the ethernet LAN. Now, a message pops up every time windows XP is started stating that a computer with a duplicate name is already on the network (But there's not).

The second laptop hasn't shown this message yet, but the same user's desktop machine did. The desktop doesn't have the same name as the laptop, but the same login was used.

Does anyone know how I can resolve this problem? We have a network with a domain (NT Server 4) .

On the affected PCs, remove them from the domain to a workgroup, reboot, then add them back to the domain.

Might be a good idea to tombstone both their WINS entries and then scavange the WINS database while you have both PCs in a workgroup and then shut off.
