I am using Windows Live Mail under Windows 7 Home Premium. I am getting two or sometimes three copies of each e-mail I receive displayed in the "Unread E-mail" folder, which makes life very difficult when you get thirty or forty mails at once!! Can anyone advise please. I have checked my settings and cannot find where I have gone wrong. All e-mail accounts (I have three) are POP.

Hi - same problem here. Then I had to move to my laptop for operating on the road. Then the duplicated mail happened again on the laptop when I set up WLM there. - OLD duplicated email items that I had already deleted when I was operating from my desktop. Hundreds.
    - Regards and thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

AFAIK there are only a few things that can cause this.

1st one is AV scanning. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection. Read this: Why You Don't Need Your Anti-Virus Program to Scan Your E-Mail

Next one: Tools > Options > General tab. Check for messages every X minutes. If this is set to short, messages will keep downloading.

Uncheck Check for messages every X minutes. Do a manual Send/Receive (press Sync). Now log on to your server's Webmail site and assure there are no messages left to be downloaded.

Go back to WLM and recheck Check for messages every X minutes, but set it to 15 minutes or more.

    Dear Arie

Many thanks for your reply. I've done the first item, stopped Kaspersky from scanning all e-mail, but, excuse my ignorance, where do you find a "Tools" tab in Windows Live Mail ??
    Richard.

I have looked all around WLM, can't find tools.
However if I goto WM, Tools, Options I find all my settings for WM that seem to control WLM.
I don't know if this makes sense or not, but works for me.

In WLM Click on the icon in between the Colorizer icon and the Help icon. Then in the drop down menu click on Show Menu Bar.

Sounds like the desktop is set to save mail on the server and that is why you are getting them on the laptop. Under your Tools/Accounts, open it up and make sure that there is not a check in the Advanced tab where you set up your account.

Sorry about that. There's an icon shown when you haven't set up an email account yet (I had not), but to access the Options once you have your email account(s) set up, see the image below:

    Hi All,

Thanks for all the help. I've now done everything as instructed, and will report back tomorrow after receiving my e-mail. Richard.

Go to your mail server on line. There may be a e-mail stuck on the server. This will also cause problems.

Thanks for your suggestion Mr Bill. I had already done this, but have checked and there are no e-mails stuck. I had discussions with my ISP (PlusNet) about all this trouble and they have confirmed everything looks OK at their end, and on my e-mail account.

As I said before I am going back to Thunderbird, much less trouble, and I am told more secure as well. Richard Howitt.

I never shut my PC off except if an update or install requires a reboot. Last week, I got duplicates one day and not the next 2 or 3 days and then 1 day again. The first time, all were duplicates. The second time, just some of them came in twice and others were OK. Haven't had that problem for a few days now. I use Centurylink as my ISP. Must be one of them gremlins...
