I recently downloaded and installed Netscape 7.2 onto my Dell latop (with a W98SE OS). The pc previously used Netscape 4.6 and, apparently, both versions are now on the pc. An icon on the desktop loads N7.2, and another Netscape icon (in the tray next to the Start button) loads Netscape 4.6.

Sometimes I find it difficult (or impossible) to launch N7.2. I wonder if that is caused by having the two versions? Would I be better off removing N4.6, using the Remove Programs utuilty?

Aside: Hi Ramola: I was one of your helpees long ago on Don’s Aptiva forum.

A NS4.x is installed in a different folder as 7.2, and has a also a Profile (or User) folder in a different location. They can be run at the same time (if you have broadband) with no ill effect. I have NS4.8 and 7.2, and, often run them at the same time, although the earlier NS are no longer compatible with many websites.
As for 7.2, if you tell me that you have never used any NS6 or 7, I am surprised of problems, but, if you have installed previous versions of NS7.x, and did not handle them properly, I am surprised if are able to use it at all.
I have one NS7.2 installation, with four different profiles, and that's ok, but if you are using a single profile, and have two different versions of NS6.x or 7.x, that the problem.

    Hi wdc,

Yes, I remember the old Aptiva days well. Glad to see you here!

Both Netscape 4.6 and 7.2 should run on your laptop with no problems whatsoever. Are you unable to even start 7.2 now, is that what you're saying or is this problem intermittent?

Disable your Firewall to see if it is blocking Netscape 7.2, check the Firewall settings to ensure that 7.2 is listed as allowed.

Delete the Cache folder located here:
    C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt\Cache

Delete the XUL.mfl file located here:
    C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt

Have you installed any new extensions recently?

Let us know if any of the above help...
