Hello all... long time no see.

OK here is the situation. I want to enable BOTH processors to run at the same time, all the time in my new server. I have win2K Pro, Dual coppermine 600E processors.

What I'm trying to do is get both of them to stay running while I have the system running as a game server.

    Here is what happens...

Running Battlefield 1942 with standalone server patch with the Desert combat add-on. The game launches and I have both processors going. As the game continues to run, one processor falls away and basically goes to sleep. Thus leaving the other one to do all the work. As the action ensues, the game gets slower and slower then, poof Win2k shuts it off. I have gone to their sites and looked for answers, but I can't find anything. Is there anyway to force win2k to run both processors at all times? Or do I have to learn Linux for full dual processor support? Or can I use XP/Pro?

    Please help!!

I'm assuming you have the multi-processor kernel version loaded. Otherwise you won't have much fun with the dual processors.

Take a look at This article.

And unless the game is written to use both processors, you'll have limited performance boost even with every thing set up properly.

Try changing your processor priority settings (Control Panel / System / Advanced / Performance Options so that if you are now set to give priority to applications, set it for background or vice versa. May make a difference or may not.

In general, 2000 isn't a great game machine and you probably would do better with XP-pro.

When you say that 1 of the processors goes away (sleeps), what does task manager report during this time? Task manager should show you all processors and how they are being used. If Task Manager doesn't show both CPU's, you may not have the correct kernel loaded, and should load the correct kernel through device manager.
If both show up, and then 1 sleeps, and the other slowly goes away also and then poof gone no more Windows, you may have a hardware problem.

OK maybe I need to clarify more. I have the system running, task manager open. I have 2 windows showing each processor. I launch the game and both show that they are working. Then once the game loads one falls away on its load and basically goes to sleep. While the othe one takes on all of the work.

Now I found out that the game is not written to take advantage of SMP. So now I read in another forum I could change the game to run as a service. By doing this would I be able to fool windows into using both processors to inprove the performance of the game?

With BF1942 I'm not loading the graphics, only a server window with text and the game slows down so badly that it becomes unplayable and eventually windows shuts it off.

Thanks for replies....but still hoping someone has other ideas
