I have a Sata HD plus a ide drive on my computer, running
    XP Pro SP 3.

XP is on the C: drive. I have installed another instance of
XP on the Sata drive and can find no way to edit the Boot.ini
file so the dual boot works.
Have tried several edits, but can't get the Sata drive to boot.
It will boot when I go into the cmos and set it up there, but
no dual boot function using this method.
I think all I need is a correctly configured
boot.ini file..I have tried editing this file but no joy..I think
I need a configuration that includes the path of the sata drive and
can find no samples of a boot.ini file for this function.
    TIA

You can determine the correct ARC path by booting to the infamous Recovery Console and running the command:

    MAP ARC

That will show the ARC path to all drives attached.

Steve, Thanks for the link to OSL2000. That looks like a very handy tool at first glance.

I like it so far but I'll need to test it in depth for any conflicts with some other softwares that alter the boot sector as well, such as GoBack and Acronis True Image, etc.

Funny I haven't seen it before. I guess I need to get out more. :D

UPDATE: Now it comes back to me. I have tested this boot director before (or one very similar). The down-side is that when booting any drive other than the primary, it hides all other drives that are flagged "Active." That's not a major problem, but it can sometimes cut you off from a data storage drive since some users tend to mark a drive as Active when installing it, whether or not they have an OS installed on it. I do that as a matter of standard.

Other than that, it's a nice tool for those who wouldn't be affected by that limitation.
